Typical startup competitions in Vietnam in 2022 (Part 1)

Startup competitions are organized with the aim of finding and developing potential projects, and at the same time realizing creative startup ideas with great promise. Such competitions are also an opportunity for startups to rub shoulders, exchange and learn from experts in many fields as well as bring their projects closer to the community.

In this article, FundGo will review some typical startup competitions held in Vietnam in 2022.

1. Startup Wheel

Startup Wheel is one of the largest annual startup competitions in Southeast Asia. Since its inception by the Youth Startup Support Center in 2013, Startup Wheel has attracted 9,700 startups from 31 countries along with 1,500 venture capital funds, individual investors, industry experts and global partners.

Startup Wheel does not limit the age and nationality of contestants. The competition also allows startups to participate with startup ideas that have not yet been implemented.

2. Startup Kite

Startup Kite is a startup idea competition for vocational students organized by the General Department of Vocational Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs. The plan to launch the competition is disseminated to vocational training institutions nationwide. Through the preliminary round, schools will select outstanding and highly applicable projects and ideas to compete in the next rounds.

In the 2021 competition season, Startup Kite selected 67 best teams to participate in the final round. The championship prize was awarded to a group of students from Nghe An Vietnam-Germany College with the project "Smart Stick". The device has the ability to sense obstacles within a distance of 0.5 - 2m, integrated with LED lights and GPS locator. Not only a mobility aid, the smart stick also helps relatives manage and monitor the elderly and disabled people who have difficulty moving.

3. I-Startup

I-Startup is organized by the Investment Association of the National Economics University. This is a competition for university students and young people aged 18-26 who want to start a business and are living in Vietnam. This year, I-Startup expanded nationwide for the first time with the theme "Breaking all stereotypes". The final night of the competition took place successfully on May 6, 2022, with the participation of the 5 best teams and a guest list including Shark Nguyen Thanh Viet - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Intracom Group and Mr. Pham Tuan Hiep - Director of Incubation BK-Holdings, Director of Fund Management BK Fund.

Not only a competition to select outstanding projects, I-Startup is also a playground to help connect young people with the same passion and interests, while creating opportunities to meet and interact directly with experts in the field of startups.

4. Vietnamese Startup

Startup Viet 2022 is an event organized by VnExpress for groups and individuals with startup projects that have been registered for business and are operating in Vietnam from November 1, 2016 to January 1, 2019.

After 5 successful seasons, this year Startup Viet continues its journey to find and develop potential startups with the theme “The Innovation Era”. The program attracts the participation of startup advisors, investors, venture capital funds and successful entrepreneurs as members of the expert council.

Startup Viet season 6 accepts registration applications from June 7, 2022 to July 22, 2022.
