Workshop: “Improving digital skills and digital economy for the Mekong Delta”

August 23, 2022, National Innovation Center (NIC) cooperate with USAID WISE to organize the workshop “Improving digital skills and digital economy for the Mekong Delta”The event took place successfully at Sapphire Hall, Ninh Kieu Riverside Hotel, Can Tho City. 

Currently, in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution taking place strongly, digital transformation is the most mentioned keyword. Because, to succeed and avoid falling behind, countries must implement digital transformation. Realizing that digital transformation is an inevitable trend, NIC and USAID WISE organized a workshop “Improving digital skills and digital economy for the Mekong Delta”The workshop aimed to facilitate regional human resource development through access to digital skills training opportunities. The event successfully connected training and recruitment partners and discussed opportunities and challenges in developing digital human resources.

The workshop was attended by representatives of units and leading speakers and experts such as: Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Hien - Deputy Director of Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Can Tho branch; Mr. Phan Vinh Quang - Head of USAID WISE expert team; Mr. Doan Huu Duc - Manager of USAID WISE Southern Regional Partnership; Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Chau - Head of State Governance Team and Digital Development Advisor USAID/Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Khanh Tung - Director - Can Tho Institute of Economics and Society; Ms. Bui Thi Lan Anh - Member of FundGo Creative Startup Investment Fund and representatives of universities and colleges in Can Tho city.

The event pointed out the problems that the Mekong Delta (MD) is facing in the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Currently, the region is lacking high-quality human resources to meet the requirements of digital transformation. This has led to the region's ineffective transition to a digital economy. At the same time, the migration rate of the MD has been quite high in recent years, with workers always tending to move to large provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, etc. for development. Therefore, in general, the MD is still facing difficulties in promoting the transition to a digital economy.

Units discussed the challenges of the Mekong Delta in the digital transformation process.

FundGo recognizes that the most important factor in competition and development of the digital economy is human resources, especially IT human resources. However, the IT human resources in the Mekong Delta are still limited and of uncertain quality, so they cannot keep up with the rapid development trend of the digital economy. 

In the coming time, FundGo will work with agencies, units as well as universities and colleges to promote support, organize programs and seminars so that students can gain more knowledge and skills to apply in the process of participating in digital transformation. In particular, the fund will continue to cooperate with Digital Transformation Alliance (DTS) Support students to approach digital transformation in both theory and practice to improve the quality and quantity of human resources to meet the requirements of the national digital transformation process.
